Samuel Cook was born on May 24, 1995 in Lenzburg, AG. He has played piano since primary school, which would later form the foundation stone for his musical career. During his high school years he wrote his final exam paper on a topic in which he tackled piano pieces from the Romantic period. The writing of style exercises led him to find an interest in composition. Together, with his experience in the free group improvisation, he has developed a great interest in contemporary music.
After one year of community service, as an alternative to military service, he received instruction in composition and music theory from René Wohlhauser. At the same time he received piano lessons from Thomas Dratva and André Thomet.
In September 2018, he began his Bachelor studies, majoring in composition. Currently, he is studying in the classes of Michel Roth and Johannes Caspar Walter in Basel. Apart from studying he sings regularly as a project singer in chamber choirs; as an organizer and composer, he is also involved in projects of the “Gong” association, which focuses on new music and improvisation.
