Jonas Marti (born 11.08.1992 in Basel) is as a composer, singer, bassist, and improviser, with interests in diverse modalities of contemporary music. Beginning at nine years old, he received drum lessons from Marc Wieland. During his high school years at the cantonal school Solothurn, he carried on with drum lessons under Andy David, and commenced his studies in bass-guitar and rock-improvisation lessons from the guitarist and songwriter Hors Alleman, in Wiedlisbach. In autumn of 2010 he received his first composition lessons from the pianist and composer Martin Imholz. After obtaining his high school diploma in 2012, Marti moved to Basel, where he continued his composition and improvisation studies with John MacKeown at the Musik Academie Basel. In summer of 2014, he joined the studio of Caspar Johannes Walter; subsequently graduating with a Master of Arts in Composition in 2019, and a minor in free improvisation, where he studied with Alfred Zimmerlin and Fred Frith for two years beginning in 2017.
