Dark matter(s) is a series of concerts featuring better- and less-known pieces of 20th and 21st-century music. The project has been created by conductor Wiktor Kociuban, who describes the idea behind the series:
‘What we see around us and what we know is called baryonic matter and constitutes only five percent of the universe; the majority is dark energy (68%) and dark matter (27%), which shapes galaxies through its gravitational effects. Just like this invisible scaffolding of the universe, contemporary music, and art in general, is often – unjustly – ignored, although itis a vital element of our existence. It forms the core of our culture. As opposed to art created for the people of the past who responded to different forms of expression and perceived art in a different context, contemporary art belongs to us.’
